The Kawau Beach House was chosen as a finalist for 2011 Timber Design Awards

The BOX Classic design was perfect for Kawau where components have to be lifted by helicopter to the building sites and wind speeds are calculated up to 60m per second! The house is a unique L-shape design around a central sheltered courtyard. The second storey gives great views back the mainland while the roof terrace balustrade echoes the history of the adjacent Maori Pa site. The house has its own wastewater and rainwater collection systems, log burner with wetback. A beautiful Glulam staircase up to the roof deck reflects the engineered timber beams while the board with close batten cladding suits the Kawau environment perfectly.
